Homecoming

Had our first practice/scrim today, due to the amazing weather that we had. We started out with some butterfly cutting, but with the lack of discs, it didn't go as effectively as I would have hoped. We scrimmed a bit, with just enough people for a 7 on 7 and subs. I focused mostly on cutting and playing aggressive defense in this game, which turned out pretty well because I gained yardage and got disc a lot more often. On defense, I shut the majority of cuts down, but have yet to get back into that mindset of baiting people for the in-cut so I can get a layout D.

There were some pretty good highlights that game:
Me hucking to Nik, who skied an out of position Wes, but the catch itself was pretty insane.
John Barnum getting the layout D on Jake's continuation pass to me
Wes laying out AT the disc and saving a crappy flick throw that would have turfed
Me picking up the garbage and skying a crowd, only to land on my ass and hurt my back
Crazy handler flow between me, Sean and Alan
Scott had a pretty nice D on Nik but it got called back because of something that I don't remember

To sum it up, I think we're off to a good start.

Mini-Scrim

Played some ultimate for the first time yesterday. There weren't many people available, so we played a game of 4 on 4. The turf field had a lot of snow left on it, but the weather itself wasn't really cold, so I could suffice.
It started out as me, Sach, Rich and Jake verses John, Jayson, Sean, and Srinjoy. I focused mostly on cutting and playing aggressive defense in the beginning, but time to time I naturally started staying back for the dump, which is something that I want to stray away from in the spring season. I did a pretty good job getting open and shutting down some cuts in the beginning, but I got lazier on when the scrim became less serious.
Sach threw some out of bounds throw that I had to toe the line for, and I landed right into a huge puddle of slosh and water. Then, later on John got open on a deep cut but had a pretty crazy failed layout attempt... into another puddle. I had a layout D and I scraped my knee, but I didn't think about it until later I realized that it was purple. That was about when I decided to stop playing.

Good times tho.

Went running around the neighborhood.
Two laps, pretty tiring.
5 uphill sprints for half of my street
